myers briggs and enneagram correlation – why can mbti types be multiple enneagram types. the intj (part 3 of 16)
INTJ 1: Introverted intuition as well as introverted sensing as the primary or secondary function is highly correlative to enneagram type 1. In my piece about rational and irrational functions I described Introverted Intuition as a function that “provides abstract internal connections from previous experiences, forming a deeper intuitive knowledge that is applied through extroverted thinking or feeling.” As an INTJ introverted intuition is naturally strong. From a young age as an INTJ’s enneagram type is developing, an INTJ will more intuitively understand what they imagine as “right” or “correct.” If an INTJ is raised in a way where attention is drawn more towards how to do things the correctly, an INTJ may overcompensate and focus too much on the perfection. An INTJ 1 will be highly focused, even somewhat critical towards things they find important in an effort to reform or improve them. An INTJ 1 at a young age are likely to have had a unhealthy relationship with unrestricted fun which further develops into the desire for correctness or rightness. Furthermore, it is likely that an INTJ type 1 was responsive to active parental care and was sensitive towards parental criticism or advice. However, this development as a child isn’t to say that as an older INTJ 1 that parental approval is wanted, on the contrary its more likely that as an INTJ 1 develops their own sense of moral integrity and even rejects others input for their own personal sense of morality or integrity. INTJ 1s could be considered the “good boys” of the INTJ enneagram types, but there lies the inherent strength of the INTJ 1 in their ability to precisely indicate the necessary steps for improvement or unbiasedness in the name of reason and truth.
INTJ 5: The development of an INTJ 5 is radically different than a type 1, and usually indicates completely different interactions between parents and even a characteristically different INTJ as a child. An INTJ 5 begins its development first of a strong internal world that when projected externally, was not necessarily accepted. Because of a strong introverted intuition as a first function, an INTJ wants to figure out the abstract framework that makes things tick, and because of their ability to due so successfully further encourages an INTJ to develop their internal world. An INTJ 5 is likely to not have a good form of output of their internal world as a child. It is likely that as a child an INTJ type 5 did not get much out of the efforts the made into the external world and preferred to stay inside their mind. In relations to their parents, INTJ type 5s are generally described as having a intrusive parent, usually their mother, who either tried to get the INTJ to come out of their shell or snooped on them to know what they were up to (for being so introverted). As a tactic to avoid this invasion of space, the INTJ 5 recluses more. Because of the strong internal mental energy of a 5, and the INTJ’s unparalleled ability for introverted intuition, an INTJ 5 is one of the strongest pioneers and thinkers of radical ideas and knowledge of processes.
INTJ 8: An INTJ 8 is easily developed by the environmental factors that may be present as a child but also has to due to an active child who overcomes challenges in a aggressive self-serving way. When confronting situations as a child, it’s likely that the INTJ 8 did not receive feedback or support for believed injustice from their environment. An INTJ 8 is likely to have more demanding or authoritative parents that the INTJ disagrees with. Because of introverted intuition, it is easy for the INTJ to see the inconsistencies in their upbringing and the relative lack of agreement with how the INTJ’s internal intuition looks at things. As introverted intuition realizes the inconsistency or unfairness of the world, extroverted thinking seeks to deal with the issue. An INTJ 8 uses extroverted thinking to dominate their environment and take power for themselves so they are not vulnerable to the perceived and noticeable unfairness that introverted intuition brings attention to. The INTJ 8 is afraid of being controlled by their environment or people because Ni sees the lack of certainty and security, and because of the practicality of strong extroverted intuition, an INTJ 8 will fulfill their own destiny through the logical manipulation of their environment.
